At Mercy Church in San Luis Obispo, the day begins with a prayer

For Mercy Church, a San Luis Obispo-based ministry, praying is fundamental in one’s growth as a Christian. Just like what is written in the Bible, the early disciples regarded prayer as the most important part of their lives. Acts 9:1 reads, “For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives."

For Christians, praying is their way to commune with God. As written in 1 Thessalonians 5: 17-18, "pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus," a Christian life is not complete without the presence of prayer. Thus, at Mercy Church in San Luis, Obispo, members are encouraged to start their day by praying in order to grow more intimate with God.

The ministry encourages its members to have prayer mornings -- an hour is set aside for personal devotion, reading, and meditating on God’s word, then praying for one’s needs. The next hour is dedicated to praying as a group for the church’s needs, the community, and other special requests. For the church, to live a victorious Christian life, prayer is essential.
